Last Day in Amsterdam

Our last full day in Amsterdam began with a stop for breakfast at Koffie Academie on Overtoom. We had planned to visit Stach which I think has a few shops around Amsterdam but walked past Koffie Academie and changed our minds. They have some of the nicest coffee I’ve tasted and the atmosphere in the cafe is pretty chill.  I would definitely recommend a visit if you stay nearby or take a walk past on your Amsterdam trip.

After we’d fuelled up we took the tram to De Pijp to walk around to find the ‘Wake me up’ Instagram wall. On the way we passed The Avocado show cafe which looked amazing and is also an Instagrammers dream. If I went to Amsterdam again I would definitely give it a try!

The Foodhallen wasn’t far from our hotel only about 10 minutes walk so it was very convenient and I’m glad we got to experience it on our stay. There was a mix of different cuisines to try, pizza to sushi to Chinese but I opted for Mexican from Fento and enjoyed a lovely chicken burrito the nachos we’re also really good. When we were leaving I spotted a frozen yoghurt stand and had to have some for the short trip back to the hotel.

We’d already had a busy morning but with it being our last day we decided to make the most of it and visit some more galleries. We had wanted to visit the Photography Museum Huis Marseille but on Mondays its closed so we opted for Foam Gallery instead which was only just down the road. There were a couple of interesting exhibitions on at the time and after looking around we sat down for a coffee, making the most of the air conditioning in the building.

We still had some time before our Ice Bar booking so we quickly nipped into Hermitage for a look at the older Dutch paintings and then sat outside in the 26-degree heat which was a contrast then to the coldness in the ice bar. It was a fun experience, dressing up in thermal coats and gloves and sipping our drinks out of glasses made out of ice. They also had a separate bar (not made of ice, fortunately) that we then decided to have a few drinks in before a quick dash into McDonald’s to try out some Dutch delicacies and back to the hotel to pack ready for our early flight the next morning!
